Hip-Hop

From Los Angeles, CA

Rhys Langston is a Los Angeles-born rapper, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist who has earned praise from The New York Times, LA Times, SPIN, STEREOGUM, and AFROPUNK for his genre-defying approach to hip-hop. Since 2014, he has released 15 projects that combine rap with live instrumentation, poetry, and visual art, including conceptual albums like "Language Arts Unit" (2020) and "Grapefruit Radio" (2022) that arrived with accompanying books. His work spans from crooning ballads to 808-heavy environmental justice anthems, and he was commissioned by Metro Los Angeles in 2022 to compose music for the K line subway opening. He received a 2021 Lightning Fund grant from LACE and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
